Starting January 1, 2025, the Puri Jagannath Temple will implement a new system to enhance the darshan experience for devotees. This initiative by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) focuses on inclusivity and convenience, with dedicated ramps and queue arrangements for women, children, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals.
Key Features of the Puri Jagannath Temple New System
- Barrier-Free Access for All
The temple will introduce barrier-free ramps near Garuda Stambha, ensuring smooth mobility for differently-abled individuals and elderly devotees. Special priority queues will be added for women, children, and senior citizens. - Temporary Structures for Streamlined Movement
Temporary barricades and collapsible ramps will be installed at Sata Pahacha, helping manage crowds effectively while ensuring a hassle-free experience for pilgrims. - Crowd Management by Experts
A newly formed team, including retired military personnel, will oversee crowd control in high-density areas such as Anand Bazaar.
Collaborative Approach to Development
SJTA Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee highlighted the role of consultations with stakeholders like Chhatisa Nijog in designing this new system. Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan added regulatory insights to ensure smooth implementation.
